At James & George Collie, we are proud to partner with Cancer Research UK to deliver its  Free Will Service. This scheme allows you to write or update a simple Will at a reduced cost, in the hope that you consider leaving a legacy gift to support the life-saving research that the charity funds.

To find out more about making a Will, please get in touch with us today.

WHO CAN USE THE CANCER RESEARCH WILLS SERVICE?

This service is available to anyone aged 18 or over. If you already have a Will, you may still be able to benefit as certain updates to existing Wills are covered.

What type of Will can I write using the service?

Under the scheme, simple Wills, i.e. those with straightforward instructions, can potentially be written or updated at a discounted rate. Even if your affairs are more complicated we may be able to offer you a reduced fee. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and to find out if you can take advantage of this service.

Do I have to leave a gift in my Will?

Most people who use the Wills Service donate to Cancer Research UK in their Wills. Over the years, our clients have generously gifted over £2 million. However, you are under no obligation to do this.

If you do decide to leave a legacy gift, you can provide details on how you wish your donation to be used, for example, by specifying a location, research facility or type of cancer. Further, you can choose the kind of gift you leave, for example:

  • Residuary gift – all property left in your estate after bills, debts, taxes, specific and non-specific gifts have been distributed.
  • Pecuniary gift – an amount of money.
  • Specific gift – particular asset(s).

How do I get started?

Contact our Wills solicitors to discuss your requirements and we will set out the next steps. If you are eligible for the Assisted Cost Wills Service, you will require to complete the relevant form and Cancer Research UK will be asked upon completion of your final Will to contribute towards the cost of your Will.
