Legal firms join forces

North-east legal practices, James & George Collie and Kinnear & Falconer, have announced they are to merge.

The move marks continued expansion by Aberdeen-based Collie which last year acquired city firm Cooper & Hay.

Kinnear & Falconer, part of the Stonehaven business community for 156 years, will retain its name but will now be in a position to offer clients access to Collies property division as well as to its mortgage department and independent financial services arm.

Tony Dawson, senior partner at James & George Collie said the merger highlighted his firm’s continual development and that he was pleased to be associated with a practice long-established and well-respected in Stonehaven and the surrounding area.

“This is a positive move for both firms,” he said, “and one that will bring about a wider range of service to both sets of clients.”

Denis Daun, senior partner at Kinnear & Falconer, saw the merger as one to offer his current client base greater access to additional legal services.

He added: “We hope to utilise the up-to-date management systems currently in place within the Collies property department which should allow our firm’s property and leasing section to expand.”
